Recent talks that popular music producer Tarik 'Russian' Johnston had been shot and killed have proven to be untrue.

The rumours spread like wildfire after an incident which the producer was involved in unfolded on Saturday in Dunrobin Acres, St Andrew.

When contacted, Johnston told THE STAR that there was no truth behind the rumours as he said, "False rumours. Nutten nuh guh suh."

He could not comment further as he was engaged in other affairs at the moment.

When contacted, Russian's publicist was also reluctant to comment on the issue.

According to police, a schoolboy was being robbed in Dunrobin Acres when a group of persons converged, held, and began to beat the robber. Johnston then came on to the scene and fired a shot in the air from his licensed firearm. Another licensed firearm holder who was in the crowd then returned fire. Johnston ran and climbed a wall and as a result, received an injury to his shoulder.

The matter was the hot topic for fans of the producer on social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook.

Among the rumours posted on social networking website Facebook, included one that said: 'It has been confirmed Russian wuz shot in da hand on Red Hills Road ... apparently they were tryn to rob him but he escaped. KMT ... everyday is anotha target ...'

Others tried to dismiss the rumours with posts like: 'Russian didn't get shot people' and 'Russian cah get shot clowns, Kartel gi him super cake soap!'

Johnston, who is a member of Head Concussion Records, came on the scene following his work on Vybz Kartel's Life Sweet and he is also known for popular rhythms such as Go Go Club, Remedy and Nuh Fear, among others, and for his production work on recent tracks such as I-Octane's Mine Who You A Diss, Chan Dizzy's Nuh Strange Face and Vybz Kartel's Lyricist.
