Gunmen struck in Olympic Gardens, St. Andrew, yesterday leaving another child dead.
Eight-year-old Jodian Bignal, a student of the Seaward Primary and Junior High School, was fatally shot at her house on Mahogany Road, in the section of Olympic Gardens known as Tower Hill, about 2:40 yesterday morning.
The Olympic Gardens police report that little Jodian was at home when four men, armed with guns, broke open a window to the house and opened fire, hitting her.
She was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where she was treated before being transferred to the Bustamante Hospital for Children, where she died.
Investigators are yet to determine a motive for the killing.
Thirty-nine children have been killed across the island since the start of the year, with the majority losing their lives to gunmen.
Unofficial figures show 978 persons were killed islandwide up to yesterday.
