The cadaver dogs brought in from the United States have discovered numerous the skeletal remains of suspected murder victims in West Kingston.
Some of the remains were found buried in shallow graves while others were found scattered in the pauper section of the May Pen Cemetery on Spanish Town Road.
The remains, which were discovered between last week and this week, have not yet been removed from the scene as the police probe continues.
This was confirmed Wednesday night by a senior police official who said the total number of bodies found is still being tallied and a top level investigation has been launched.
He disclosed that the amount of remains found is significant.

In the meantime, the Police High Command is to write to the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation, the Superintendent in charge of the May Pen Cemetery and the Ministry of Health seeking an urgent meeting to discuss the find.
Letters will be sent to all the parties on Thursday.
Since last month, search teams from the US along with cadaver dogs have been combing sections of West Kingston.
The search was launched after a body believed to be that of a missing cop was found in a shallow grave in Tivoli Gardens.
Investigators are awaiting DNA test results to confirm the identity.
The search teams along with the dogs will leave the country on Thursday.
