JLP activist killed

The police are trying to find a motive for Thursday night's gruesome killing of a man said to be a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) activist in Clarke's Town, Trelawny.

The man, who is known also by his alias "Chemist", was the liaison officer for Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert, JLP Member of Parliament for South Trelawny, was shot and his body set on fire in a cane field.

It is understood that just after 8 o'clock Thursday night "Chemist" was driving his Nissan Sunny motor car on the Clarke's Town main road when he was intercepted by a white Toyota Corolla motor car.

"Chemist" reportedly swerved into the cane field to escape his pursuers but the occupants of the Corolla opened fire on Nissan Sunny before setting it ablaze.

The car was gutted and "Chemist" was reportedly burnt beyond recognition.

The white Toyota Corolla motor car was found abandoned about half a mile from the crime scene.

Investigators are looking into a possible link to Wednesday's fatal shooting of four men by the police in Falmouth Gardens.

And Karl Samuda, JLP General Secretary, says he is disturbed by Thursday night's incident in Clarke's Town.

"It just indicates the level of savagery and absolute unnecessary violence that has become so typical of our everyday life. We really regret it because this is someone who had worked very closely with the Member of Parliament," he said.
