A team of police officers on routine patrol in the Grants Pen community near Yallahs in St Thomas seized a public passenger bus with four illegal guns and over fifty 9mm rounds of ammunition yesterday. Two men were arrested in connection with the seizure.

The team intercepted a white Toyota Hiace bus travelling to Kingston. The driver and his lone passenger were searched and the latter was found with seven 9mm rounds. The men along with the vehicle were taken to the Yallahs Police Station where officers there sought assistance from the Caribbean Search Centre. Members of that unit searched the bus and found four pistols - three 9mm Smith & Wesson and a 9mm Fabrique Nationale Herstal. Four magazines and fifty-five 9mm rounds of ammunition were also found in the bus.

The men are expected to be questioned in the presence of their attorneys before being formally charged for breaches of the firearms act among other things.
