A police officer and an elderly man were shot and injured when gunmen fired at lawmen in the Charles Gordon Market in Montego Bay, St James, on Saturday night.
One of the gunmen, who is unidentified, was fatally shot and a home-made shotgun and three 12 gauge cartridges taken from him. He is of brown complexion, medium build, about 167 centimetres (5 feet 7 inches) tall.
Police said about 8:30 p.m. lawmen responded to a call that armed men were robbing people in the market. On arrival, a group of men shot at them and a running gun-battle ensued.
After the shooting, one of the gunmen, the police officer and a 65-year-old man had gunshot injuries.
They were taken to hospital where the officer was treated and released, the elderly man admitted and the gunman died.
