There is a new twist to the case of the Haitian teenager who arrived in the island last week.
RJR News understands that police investigators are now treating the 16-year old youth as a suspect in the drugs for guns trade operating between Jamaica and Haiti.
It was initially thought that the teen was a refugee who had fled Haiti following last month's devastating earthquake.
The police told RJR's Portland correspondent that the Haitian has admitted to illegally entering Jamaica several times as part of the gun trading racket.
He is expected to be charged soon.
The youth, who speaks fluent English, told the police that he arrived at Hellshire beach in St. Catherine, on Wednesday with some fishermen.
He claimed that 10 members of his family perished in the January 12 earthquake.
On arrival in Jamaica, he said he was given J$1,000 and took the bus to Montego Bay, St. James.
However, his intended destination was Port Antonio.
He returned to Kingston and then went on to Port Antonio where he met up with friends in Fairy Hill.
The friends called the police and he was picked up about 4pm Friday.
The teenager reportedly told the police this was not his first trip to Jamaican shores as in 2006 he travelled here with a group of Haitians, who were eventually deported.
