Michael Anthony Phillips, 36, of Phillip Avenue, Kingston 11, was fatally shot after he pointed a gun at the police in that community yesterday.

Police say about 11:30 a.m., an operation was carried out at Phillip Avenue. During the exercise, Phillips was seen with a firearm which he pointed at the lawmen.

The police took evasive action and opened fire, hitting him. The weapon - a Ruger 9mm pistol, serial number 30605088 with seven rounds of ammunition - was taken from him. He was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
