A man who was on his way to visit a doctor was shot dead just metres from the clinic before seeing the physician early yesterday morning in Albion, Montego Bay.

The dead man's family members who arrived at the murder scene about an hour later, identified him as Khorie Barrett, a 39-year-old shopkeeper of Flankers Capture Land in St James.

Eyewitnesses told The Star that at about 9:30 yesterday morning, Barrett was walking along First Street in Albion, heading towards a medical centre when a black car approached him from the opposite direction.

The occupants opened fire hitting Barrett several times. He ran from the scene, but one of his attackers came out of the car, chased him along the road in full view of onlookers and shot him a number of times again. He died on the spot.

"Mi hear eight shots fire and mi see the man a run, but him did already get shot. One a di man jump out a di car, run him down and finish him off. The shooter just hop back in a di car and dem speed off," an eyewitness said.

Police have confirmed the report, but said up to late last evening they had not established any motive for the killing.

As detectives from the Area One Scenes of Crime Unit processed the scene, onlookers described Barrett as a good youth. "Mi know him. Him was a good man," said one person. Another interjected: "Him was always trying something to survive. I don't know why dem would a kill him, but it seem they trailed him into the area."

Detectives attached to the Montego Bay CIB said the car featured in the crime was seen parked in the area earlier. The neighbourhood has been left in shock. Investigations are continuing.
