A morning shoot-out on the busy Marcus Garvey Drive thoroughfare in Kingston yesterday left a robber dead and a truck driver counting his blessings.
Police say shortly after 10 a.m. a haulage contractor stopped along the road as a result of mechanical difficulties his truck had developed.
While there, a lone gunman, identified as Dwight Abrahams, 20, of Majesty Gardens, Kingston, pounced upon him and started robbing him of his jewellery.
The thug then asked the truck driver for money and was given $500. Not satisfied with the funds, police say the crook started firing several shot at the driver as he moved away.
The driver, a licensed firearm holder, reportedly took cover and fire back at the thief, killing him. The deceased man's body lied in the street for some time, drawing scores of onlookers, as the police processed the crime scene.
