The Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID) is processing three men held with a large sum of money and other documents that appeared to be related to the lottery scam during a routine traffic check.

Reports are that about 2 p.m. yesterday, the Linstead police in St Catherine were doing traffic enforcement duties along the Linstead bypass when they signalled a Toyota Corolla with the men to stop.

During a search of the vehicle, more than $200,000 and a number of names on remittance receipts were observed.

The men who hail from Trelawny and St James could not give satisfactory accounts of how they acquired the money.

As a result, OCID was contacted and the men handed over. Their names are being withheld pending further investigations.

In recent months, police have been clamping down on the lucrative lottery scam for which many persons are before the courts.

Speaking at a forum on Tuesday at the Boulevard Baptist Church, St Andrew, Deputy Police Commissioner Charles Scarlett said police will do all in their power to end the scam.
