Stephen McGregor is known for his many hit productions, but of late the producer has been adding his voice to a few tracks.
The airwaves have been burning up with a few songs that feature McGregor. Some of the songs are Vybz Kartel's Careful, Bramma's Some People, and Chino's Protected. But the first single on which he used his voice was Chino's I Know. On these songs, he usually does the chorus.
However, the son of revered reggae singer Freddie McGregor said this should not be mistaken for him wanting to break through as a full-time artiste.
"I don't do it to try an' buss," McGregor told THE STAR. "Is just to put all the focus on the artistes."
my personality
He added: "That's how I started out. Originally, I used to DJ when I was younger. A nuh my personality dat. I don't like all the attention and focus being on me."
The singing, he said, started because he does demos for different songs when he creates his rhythms. He usually gives these demos to different artistes. But for the songs he is featured on, the artistes liked how he sounded.
"It's just me experimenting," McGregor said. He could not say if he would be on anymore tracks as he has many ideas.
"It's not a plan thing. If I find certain ideas that fit certain artistes, I will do it," he told THE STAR.
Still focused on producing, McGregor will release the 'Fitness' rhythm next week. This summer rhythm will feature 'usual suspects' Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Chino, Laden, Blak Ryno and Bramma.
"It's the dancehall rhythm for the summer; it crazy crazy. Fitness 'cause the girl dem fi haffi stay fit," McGregor said, laughing.
For the summer, he will also release singles from Big Ship artistes Chino and Laden, as well as other artistes such as Mavado, Elephant Man and Bramma.
