Constable on manslaughter charge gets bail

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth - Sheldon Brown, the special constable charged with three counts of manslaughter following a motor vehicle accident on the Gilnock main road just east of Santa Cruz on January 8 has been granted bail.

The bail, in the sum of $500,000, was offered when the policeman appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The 25-year-old Brown, a resident of Clarendon, was banned from driving and ordered by the court to surrender his travel documents as well as report every Wednesday to the Chapelton Police Station.

Allegations are that on the evening of January 8, the car being driven by Brown overtook improperly on a bend and collided head on with another car travelling from the opposite direction.

Three people, including a special constable and two elderly women died in the accident. Several others were injured.
