THE captain of a ship which was docked at the Montego Bay Freeport was found dead aboard the vessel yesterday morning.

Police identified the dead ship captain as Vladimie Panovskiy, 61, a citizen of Ukraine.

According to the police, the captain, who had retired to his cabin about 8:00 Monday night, did not respond to calls from the chief officer when the vessel was scheduled to set sail at 4:00 o'clock yesterday morning.

The first officer and other crew members went to investigate and found the captain's body in his cabin, said the Constabulary Communication Network. The police and a doctor were called and the ship captain was pronounced dead, the scene processed and the body removed to the morgue.

The Freeport police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
