The police continued to grapple with violent crime yesterday as six violent deaths and a gun attack on a cop were reported in different sections of the island.
Police report that 49-year-old Michael Williams was shot dead during a robbery at a shop in Mike Town, Manchester Friday evening. A 54-year-old woman was also shot and injured in that incident.
In another incident in Manchester, Charles Smith, a 72-year-old resident of Belair district, was stabbed and chopped to death at his home. It was not known who committed that murder.
In Kingston, police found the body of an unidentified man with gunshot wounds at Langard Avenue, Kingston 13 on Friday.
Yesterday morning, Japheth Watson, 43, businessman of Time and Patience district in Linstead, St Catherine was robbed then shot dead by gunmen at his business place, while in Hanover, police found the bodies of two men - Errol Leslie, 51, of Forrest district and 61-year-old Alvin Miller of Chester Castle - in separate incidents.
The police also reported that a corporal assigned to the Motorised Patrol Division was shot and injured early yesterday morning at West Bayfarm Road, Kingston 11.
Police say that about 12:15 am the corporal, who was on his way home, was attacked by a group of men who shot him several times.
The cop ran, but collapsed and was taken to hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.
