Theres an interesting article by Steven Jackson in todays Jamaica Observer newspaper that speaks to an ongoing debate about the authenticity of what we call dancehall today, vs. dancehall in the 1980s and 1990s. The article references a pioneering dancehall riddim producer Cleveland Brownie - of Steely and Clevie fame - who argues that dancehall is no longer dancehall and that millennium dancehall should be classified under a different name.
