Cops arrested for selling Jamaican passport to foreign national

Two more policemen were arrested and charged for alleging collecting money to provide a foreign national with a Jamaican passport.

A release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), stated that Det. Sergeant Winston Pollack and Constable Tyrone Bryan both were arrested on Thursday, June 4 by the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) on reasonable suspicion for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act and Conspiracy to commit a criminal offence.

It is alleged that in February of this year the complainant, who is the proprietor of a supermarket and wholesale in St. Catherine, paid the Detective Sergeant a total of $115,000 to obtain a Jamaican passport.

The complainant, who is a foreign national is the holder of a work permit to work in Jamaica and was not entitled to a Jamaican passport.

Pollack allegedly conspired with Bryan by paying him some of the money to employ another individual to secure the passport.

This passport was eventually obtained and handed over to the complainant.

On Thursday of this week, the complainant visited the Passport Office where he used the said passport as a means of identification in applying for a passport for his daughter. During this process Immigration officials discovered that the passport was not genuine.

The Anti-Corruption investigators were then called in and an investigation led to the arrest of the two police personnel. Both policemen are presently in custody to be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys.

The Anti-Corruption Branch is advising members of the public to use official agencies of government when seeking to obtain official documents and to report all instances of suspected corruption to the Anti-Corruption Branch.

Members of the public are also encouraged to contact the Anti Corruption Branch through its secured 1-800-CORRUPT line.
