Kartel Responds To Grenada Ban
Vybz Kartel and members of his Portmore Empire camp were recently denied work permits to perform in Grenada. We understand that the Grenadian Ministry of Labour did not give a valid reason for the refusal, but many have cited the sensitive issue of censorship or freedom of expression as a possible cause. Kartel has since released a statement regarding the ban via his publicist Claude Mills and it read.

"This decision by the government of Grenada to not grant us work permits is regrettable especially in light of the fact that this is a concert to promote safe sex in a region which has the second-highest rate of HIV infection in the world after sub-Saharan Africa, and a high incidence of AIDS, a disease which has devastated several families in the Caribbean," 

"Through our company, Daggering Unlimited we advocate safe sex and condom use using entertainment. And as such, I believe that the government may have acted hastily. Given the media attention that their decision has drawn, we hope that the government will do the right thing and choose to grant us the permits to perform in the country this weekend, (May 2, 2009)".
Kartel's recent condom campaigns for saving lives have also been well received. Vybz Kartels recent releases Mama and "Dollar Sign" among others have been steadily climbing the charts, as he prepares for several performances in the Caribbean, including the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago on May 8th 2009.
