Veteran dancehall deejay Risto Benjie (real name - Michael Benjamin), who was arrested and charged with robbery with aggravation last week, was released on J$40,000 bail with a surety when he appeared in the Spanish Town Criminal Court yesterday. He is scheduled to return to court on June 22. His first bail request last week was actually refused, however the court accepted his sister as a surety when he appeared in court yesterday.
Risto Benjie is most known for a handful of hits in the 1980s and early 1990s including Gimme The Money, Passport Buddy and Gun Johncrow. He was also a protege of the Grammy Kid at the height of Shabba Ranks career.
