A juror who was reportedly filled with the 'holy spirit', created a scene in the St. Elizabeth Circuit Court yesterday, when she began rebuking the accused man, who is charged with murder.

The accused man, Roger McKenzie, was giving an unsworn statement from the dock, when a female juror jumped up and cried out, "Alleluia, Alleluia. Speak the truth, speak the truth."

She stood repeating the same words for about two minutes.

McKenzie, who is from New-c****e Valley district in the parish, is accused of killing the mother of his child.

The trial began on Monday when four witnesses testified for the Crown which closed its case. As a result of yesterday's disturbance, the trial was adjourned until the next session of the circuit court on June 22.

Waiting on bus

Allegations are that on February 26, 2005, Rosemarie Newman, was at Glenco Housing Scheme in Santa Cruz, with her aunt, waiting on a bus to go to Montego Bay, St James, where she was to do a job interview.

The court heard that she was approached by McKenzie and reportedly stabbed several times in her back and chest. She died on the spot.

It is not certain whether the trial will continue with the same jury.

This is the second trial to be adjourned in the Circuit Court, as last week juror-tampering forced a part-heard murder matter against Christopher Duhaney to be sent to the next session of the Home Circuit Court in Kingston.
