Entertainer Arrested For Theft


34-year-old entertainer, Risto Benjie whose real name is Michael Benjamin has been arrested and charged by the Spanish Town Police in St. Catherine.

Mr. Benjamin was arrested on Tuesday morning after he allegedly stole a cellular phone from a woman in Spanish Town.

It is reported that about 10 o'clock the woman was on her way from a Shopping Centre in the town when she sought Mr. Benjamin's assistance in taking her to another section of the old capital.

Mr. Benjamin reportedly agreed to take her on his motorcycle for a fee. However instead the Entertainer allegedly took her to another area where he attempted to steal her handbag.

Mr. Benjamin failed in his attempt and only managed to get her cellular phone.

The woman raised an alarm and the police who were in the area apprehended and charged Mr. Benjamin with robbery

Risto Benjie is best known for his 1992 hit 'Passport Buddy' on King Jammy's 'Father and Son' label.
