Staff at the Air Jamaica reservations department are in mourning following the untimely death of one of their colleagues on Monday from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

The police yesterday dismissed earlier reports that Denise Mattison, of the reservations headquarters on Queens Drive in Montego Bay, was the victim of a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of the Fairfield crossing in Montego Bay, last Saturday.

Law-enforcement personnel said the other driver had also been hospitalised. They did not release his name.

Three kids motherless

Mattison had been brain-dead since the time of the accident and succumbed to her injuries Monday morning. She has left three children to mourn her death.

Mattison was heading for work shortly before 9 a.m. when, upon reaching the four-way intersection along the Fairfield main road, the 1999 Toyota Corolla she was driving collided with a 2000 Toyota Corona.

Saturday's accident came just days after a five-vehicle collision along the Montpelier main road in the parish, which claimed the life of Cutesha Gayle, a policeman's fianceé, and injured at least five others.

The police confirmed yesterday that Sgt Andy Birch and his two daughters were still hospitalised.
