Constable Royford Lee, attached to the St. James Police was arrested on Monday last (March 4) on reasonable suspicion of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act of 2000.
Allegations are that on Monday, February 23, 2009 about 8:30 a.m., Constable Lee seized a White Toyota Corolla Motor in the Mount Salem Police area. This seizure was as a result of a traffic breach detected by Constable Lee. He then drove this motor vehicle to the Mount Salem Police Station, where it was alleged that on several occasions he demanded a sum of $100,000 for the release of the said motor vehicle.
A report was subsequently made to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), and a sting operation was executed by a team of Police personnel from the ACB, which resulted in the arrest of Constable Royford Lee.
