Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o Using Treble Dream As Motivation

While Barcelona are running away with the 2008-09 Primera Division title, their star striker, Samuel Etoo is waltzing away with the Pichichi trophy.

His double strike last night in the 3-1 win over Sporting Gijon saw him extend his La Liga tally to 21 goals, four clear of Valencias David Villa and five ahead of team-mate Lionel Messi. But the Cameroonian has his eyes set on a bigger prize: a La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey treble.

The 27-year-old striker said he would not rule out the possibility of the team achieving that elusive target, but he also warned not to get too excited by the prospect.

One less round to play, and three more points added, he began, during the post-match conference after the win over Sporting.

Hopefully, we can continue our good streak because we cannot lower our guard. If we lose our focus, any team will be able to beat us.

We must take it one game at a time, although it makes it much easier to continually move forward when you set yourself a dream. You do not feel the exhaustion.

Meanwhile, midfielder Andres Iniesta, who set up Etoos opening goal from a quick break, urged his team to make use of their new-found secret weapon.

We must take advantage of the counterattacks. A lot of teams will come here and close up at the back and it is up to us to open up the game, he stressed.

Right-back Dani Alves, who netted the third goal, was pleased with his strike and with the teams victory.

The Brazilian said, I am happy with the three points won. We have to continue with this mentality and from here on out, the only thing we must think about is to add three more points every time.

As for my goal, it was a good effort. When you hit the ball right, you know that its a good shot straight away. The ball entered the net where the goalkeeper least expected it.

Barcelona maintained their 12-point gap over rivals and direct title pursuers Real Madrid. The Blaugrana will take on Real Betis next week in Andalucia following a midweek break.
