HVFC BEATS ST.GEORGES 5-0

H View a handful for St Georges

Robert Bailey, Gleaner Writer

DONOVAN HAYLES, assistant coach of Harbour View, said he was not surprised by his team's resounding 5-0 over St Georges in the Digicel Premier League on Wednesday night, at Harbour View Mini Stadium.

"I think we played an excellent brand of football because our plan is that we are going to lift it up a notch up this round. Come the third round, we will be looking to make another step forward again," said Hayles.

Kavin Bryan led the rout with a double, netting in the ninth and 58th minutes, supported by strikes from Dicoy Williams in the 47th, Marcellino Blackburn three minutes later, and Lovel Palmer put the icing on to the cake two minutes from time.

"I am not surprised with the five goals. I expected it because I believe that once you play enterprising football and you make good on your scoring chances, then the goals will come," said Hayles.

Harbour View were twice beaten by St Georges last season and their other two meetings ended in draws and, according to Hayles, they wanted to set the record straight.

"We played very enterprising football tonight and this is what is it all about," he said. "We maintained possession of the ball whenever we had it and I think the players must take all of the credit

for this because they are in good physical shape and it showed out there during the second period."

Jeffrey Maxwell, coach of St Georges, said, "I will take the blame for the players because whenever you lose it is the coaches fault. I think our midfield went to pieces in the second half but I must give credit to the Harbour View team because they played very well tonight.

"They did simple things in terms of moving the football. However, I thought in the second half individualism crept into my team and the discipline also broke down and the goalkeeping was below par."

Bryan gave the hosts the lead when he netted a rebound shot from point-blank range past St Georges custodian Anthoniel Williams.

Ten minutes later, Jermaine Hue's 22-yard free-kick was spectacularly saved by Williams.

Daniel Shaw thought he had given St Georges the equaliser on the stroke of half-time, but instead his close-range volley went into the side netting.

Dicoy Williams doubled the hosts lead two minutes into the second period when he headed home a corner kick from Hue.

Blackburn then increased the 'Star of the East's' lead three minutes later with a powerful left-foot shot which went like a rocket past Williams.

Bryan completed his double eight minutes later when he calmly slotted home from close range.
