Annotto Bay hunt fourth straight win in daCosta Cup

RIO NUEVO, St Mary - Annotto Bay will be seeking a fourth straight win this afternoon when they close their first round of Zone K of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup competition against Iona High at Rio Nuevo.

Annotto Bay, who advanced to the Inter-Zone round last season, have conceded one goal over their last three games and will be tested by a confident Iona High team today.

Iona started the season well, but have not been able to maintain that early season form. However, they have matched Annotto Bay's record for wins, though they are in second place in Zone K, tied with St Mary Technical on 11 points, one more than Annotto Bay.

Annotto Bay are coming off a big 6-0 win over Islington on Saturday, while Iona blanked Tacky 2-0.

Zone K leaders St Mary High dropped their first point on Saturday after being held to a draw by St Mary Technical, but should get back to winning ways against Tacky High at Highgate.

St Mary High won both games against Tacky last year and three of the last four, and on form, should win today to keep their lead.

St Mary Technical should also win when they play away to Brimmervale, while Islington host Oracabessa.

Zone A leaders St James High and former champions Cornwall College will seek to end the first round on winning notes when they take on newcomers Green Pond and Spot Valley, respectively.

Fresh from their 4-0 drubbing of Irwin High on Saturday, St James High, on 11 points, will travel to Green Pond, who are tied at the bottom on three points with Spot Valley.

St James High are the only unbeaten team in the zone and lead the scoring with 13 so far and are expected to come away with three points today.

Cornwall and Spot Valley will meet for the first time ever and the former 11-time champions, who broke out of a mini slump with a come-from-behind win over Herbert Morrison on Saturday, should also take all three points on offer.

Irwin and Herbert Morrison will meet in the other Zone A game between two schools badly in need of a win.

After beating Cornwall on Thursday, Irwin were hammered by St James High on Saturday, while Herbert Morrison have scored just four points from their five games.

Today's schedule
Zone A - Green Pond vs St James, Spot Valley vs Cornwall College, Irwin vs Herbert Morrison.
Zone K - Islington vs Oracabessa, Iona vs Annotto Bay, St Mary High vs Tacky, Brimmervale vs St Mary Technical.
