TVJ secures exclusive Olympics DVD deal with IOC

TVJ secures exclusive Olympics DVD deal with IOC

Sunday, September 28, 2008

Television Jamaica (TVJ) yesterday announced that it had secured from the International Olympics Committee (IOC) the exclusive right to produce and market a DVD with highlights of the station's Beijing 2008 Olympic Games coverage.

The deal also provides TVJ with the exclusive right to distribute the DVD throughout the English-speaking Caribbean, a news release from the television station said.

"We are delighted that Jamaicans will soon be able to purchase the limited edition, collector's item titled Gold Rush: Jamaica's 2008 Olympic Athletics Show," said TVJ General Manager Kay Osborne.

"There is an overwhelming demand for the DVD from companies that want to purchase copies as gifts for their clients and for promotional purposes and from individuals who want to purchase copies for their own collection and to give as gifts to friends and family overseas who were unable to watch the action live on TVJ."

According to TVJ, the DVD will contain real time and slow motion replay footage of athletic events in which Jamaicans reached the finals, as well as footage of athletes' celebratory activities after their races, medal and flag raising presentations, and footage of joyous Jamaicans celebrating in the streets of Jamaica, in their homes and at various sports locations.

"The production and sale of the DVD is a natural extension of TVJ's memorable, high quality 'In Pursuit of Gold' Olympics coverage," the station said.

The DVD footage, the release added, will include Usain Bolt's astonishing world-record performances, gold medal performances of Shelly-Ann Fraser, Veronica Campbell-Brown and Melanie Walker, the performance of Jamaica's 4 x 100m relay team with Bolt on the third leg and former world record holder Asafa Powell on the anchor, and the silver medal performances of Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson.

TVJ said that its sales team will begin taking DVD orders from corporate clients on October 3, the day the official homecoming celebrations planned by the Government begin.

"TVJ will begin broadcasting retail sales information on this date as well," the release said, adding that part proceeds from the sale of the DVD will benefit Jamaican sports charities.
