YORK TOWN, Clarendon - Former champions Glenmuir High snapped a four-game winless streak against defending ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy champions Garvey Maceo High with a 2-0 win in the feature Zone I game at York Town Community Centre yesterday.
National players Jon-Ross Doyley and Shavar Brown scored for Glenmuir, who were winning for the third straight outing. On the other hand Garvey Maceo crashed to their first back-to-back defeat for the first time in over five years after going down 0-1 to Old Harbour earlier in the week.
Garvey dropped to third place in the group as Old Harbour edged Tacius Golding to move to eight points - two behind the leaders and two more than Garvey.
St Thomas Technical and Manchester High extended their perfect starts with win over the previously unbeaten Paul Bogle High and DeCarteret College, respectively.
St Thomas edged Paul Bogle 1-0 in a game between two teams that had won their previous four games, to take over the lead on Zone L(b) with 15 points.
Two goals from Oral Johnson carried Manchester to a 3-1 win as they increased their lead in Zone F over Belair.
In Zone A, St James brought Irwin High back to earth, hammering them 4-0 with braces from Allan Ottey and Nicholi Barrett at Irwin.
At Jarrett Park, Cornwall College shook off a bad slump to rally for a 2-1 victory against Herbert Morrison, with second-half goals from Michael Jerry and Jhaun Bryan, who came off the bench after losing his starting spot.
St James maintained their one-point lead in the group with 11 points - one more than Cornwall, who moved past Maldon, who were held 1-1 by Spot Valley.
Rusea's lost their perfect win record after coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw away to Frome Technical in a Zone B game between two former champions.
Meanwhile, five schools including former champions Clarendon College, won for the first time yesterday.
Clarendon edge Claude McKay 2-1 to move off the bottom of Zone H after leaders Lennon were held 1-1 by Vere Technical, snapping their three-game winning streak.
Former champions Godfrey Stewart scored for the first time in three games, edging neighbours Mannings 1-0 in a Sav-La-Mar 'derby', while leaders Grange Hill and Petersfield drew 0-0. Aabuthnott Gallimore edged York Castle 2-1 in Zone D action; Edwin Allen High beat Mile Gully 3-1 in Zone G for their first Cup win since 2006, while Seaforth edged Robert Lightbourne 2-1 in Zone L (b). Rossie Myers got on the scoresheet twice as Maggotty romped to a 4-0 win over BB Coke in Zone E, while Black River and Balaclava ended 0-0.
