NICO-T MATH QUESTION...I NEED UR OPINIONZ

***NICO-T SPEAKZ***

NEED TO KNOW IF I ATTEMPTED THIS QUESTION THE CORRECT WAY.

Gross receipts: Six thousand tickets are to be sold for a concert, some for $9 each and the rest for & $15 each. If  x  is the number of $9 tickets sold, write an algebraic expression that represents the gross receipts from ticket sales,assuming all tickets are sold. Simplify the expression.

REMEMBER SAY THE 6,000 ONLY REPRESENTS THE AMOUNT OF TICKETS AND NOT THE PRICE OF ALL THE TICKETS SOLD.

no. of ticket= 6,000
some for $9
rest for $15
number of $9 ticket sold = x

$15 + $9x=6,000
9x=6,000-15
9x= 5985
9/9x=5985/9

mi no sure if a so
gimmi a next example and mi will see if mi can help

I TRIED THAT WAY BEFORE...BUT I DOUBT IT!!!

TAKE ALOOK AT THIS:

I think its 15(6000-x)+ 9x = amount of money from sale of tickets

Hence I Concluded: 6000=$9x + $15(6000-x)

IM STILL NOT SURE BUT IM STILL WORKING

9x + 15 = 6000
9x = 6000 - 15
9x = 5985
________
9
x = 665

therefore 5985 tickets were sold for $9

Thats my answer assuming that only one ticket was sold for $15

number of $9 ticket sold = x

First of all the question ask for the Gross receipts in the form of an algebraic expression.
There is not enough information to solve the question, only to simplify it.

Please note that 6,000 is the number of tickets and not the amount of money received for the tickets therefore a statement like

$15+$9x=6,000 would not be logical. "6000" is not cash but the actual amount of tickets.

So lets break down the question;

To find the Gross receipts, which is a cute way of saying the money we make after selling the 6000 tickets

we have to add the money we make from $9 tickets to what we make from$15 tickets.
the information given is that 'x' is the amount of $9 tickets sold
and what is left are $15 tickets.

so to calculate the money we made from $9 tickets we have to multiply the cost of the ticket by the amount sold which is x.
That would be 9x

Then to calculate the money made from $15 tickets we would multiply the amount of tickets left after selling the $9 tickets by 15

which is (6000 - x)15 note we have to take away the amount of $9 tickets sold to find out the tickets that are left which would be the amount of $15 tickets.
I hope this is clear.

THEREFORE to express all of that in a logical equation, it would look something like this:

Gross receipts = 9X + (6000-X)15

= 9X + 90000 - 15X

= 9X-15X +90000

= -6X+90000

= 6(-x+1500)

moyo the -6 cannot change to + unless it is x by a - so for that par i say

=-6(x-15000) n plus it is simplifying n not solving hence 9x amounted for the amount of tickets sold

6000-x would be the remainder tickets x 15 so the most likely solution would be the 9x + 15(6000-x) that you had first

moyo chinojermz is correct u cant simplify 9X-15X +90000 because if you did then you would not account for the tickets that were sold for $15. so you would get a different answer if you use 6(-x+1500).  say 1000 ticket were sold for $9 that means 5000 were sold $15. If we use the first formula:

     9(1000) -15(1000) + 90000 = 84000

the second formula:

    6(-1000+1500) = 6(500) = 3000

two different answer. The first one is correct because 9(1000) + 15(5000) = $84000

hope that's what u did on the test NICO-T blankstare

anyone need help with maths just pm me.

Oh I realize that i left off a zero, in
=6(-x+1500)
it should be 15000 not 1500 so this is the correction

=6(-x+15000) "Please note it is a negative "x" (-x)

Nuff respect chinojermz and dubstar
But the question ask for two things
first - an algebraic expression
second - simplify the expression

so first answer is Gross receipts = 9X + (6000-X)15
then to simplify that
= 9X + 90000 - 15X

= 9X-15X +90000

= -6X+90000

= 6(-x+15000)

Alright the only way to find out if i'm correct is to actually prove the answer by assigning a value to the variable "x"

Remember my first line is 9X + (6000-X)15 and simplified it becomes = 6(-x+15000) when i plug the value of x in, both should
give an identical answer.

So here we go

lets say x=10

Then
9X + (6000-X)15 "First line"

=9(10) + (6000 - 10)15

=90+(5990)15

=89940

The simplified expression should give the same answer 89940 (lets see) (remember we assign x = 10)

6(-x+15000) "simplified expression"
= 6(-10+15000)
=6(14990)
=89940

Perfectly correct.

isn't it:
15(6000 x 9x) = t (total ticket sales)
