Manning Cup in full swing today

Manning Cup in full swing today

Monday, September 15, 2008

Nine matches are down to be played in today's Corporate Area Manning Cup as the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Schoolboy football competition gets into full swing following Saturday's official opening at Jarrett Park.

The feature match of the day is in Group A with Spanish Town High hosting the Jerome Waite-coached Charlie Smith High.

Waite guided the three-time Manning Cup champions to their last lien in 1995, but Prison Oval will be rocking as their opponents have become one of the perennial teams to watch despite them falling when it matters most.

Another interesting clash in Group A will be at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, where Norman Manley High visit Tivoli High. Also in the group, Campion College entertain Tarrant High at Campion.

In Group B, 2007 semi-finalists Waterford High await St Mary's College, Pembroke Hall High travel to Breezy Castle to play Donald Quarrie High, while defending Walker Cup champions Calabar High take on minnows Ascot High at their Red Hills Road base.

In Group E, St George's College, an 18-time Manning Cup titlist, second on the all-time list behind Jamaica College, host Dunoon Technical at Winchester Park.

Elsewhere in the group, Ardenne High entertain Camperdown High, while Excelsior and coach Leebert Halliman begin another quest at home against Greater Portmore High in search of their eighth hold on the coveted cup.

Meanwhile, eight matches are scheduled for tomorrow, which will see last year's beaten finalist Bridgeport High in action as well as Wolmer's Boys, who have been heavily tipped to win this year's championships.
All matches begin at 3:30 pm.

Today's matches:
