Christiana, Manchester - People's National Party (PNP) caretaker for North East Manchester, Paul Lyn, has accused the ruling Jamaica Labour party (JLP) of political victimisation, and has urged his party to include the issue in the Vale Royal talks which is seeking bipartisan consensus on the war against crime.
"This must be on the agenda of the next Vale Royal talks, because we cannot curb crime in this country if we continue like this.," Lyn told PNP presidential candidate Peter Phillips at a divisional conference in Christiana on Sunday night.
Phillips, the National Security Minister in the PNP administration which was narrowly beaten in parliamentary elections last September, is a lead member of the PNP delegation in the discussions with the ruling party.
Lyn charged that PNP supporters in NE Manchester and he suspected in "other constituencies", had suffered victimisation since last September. He claimed this was apparent in the relief efforts that followed Hurricane Dean last August, and said only last week PNP supporters were denied books that were being handed out at the JLP constituency office in Christiana.
According to Lyn, a message was sent out that "no PNP supporter must join the line.".
Lyn argued that such behaviour was intolerable "because is not Jamaica Labour Party money being spent, is the money of the taxpayers of Jamaica and everybody that needs to benefit must benefit.".
At the meeting on Sunday night, Lyn pledged his support to Phillips in his campaign to unseat Opposition leader Portia Simpson Miller as president of the PNP.
