A DAD and his teenage son were killed in a horrific motorway smash yesterday as they drove to the airport to begin a dream holiday in Disney World.
Gary Proctor, 47, died in hospital with 16-year-old James after their silver Fiat Punto collided with an Audi Quattro.
Bus driver Garys wife Catherine, 44, was injured but was said to be stable. The Audi driver, a man of 31, was held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.
The 6am crash happened on the westbound carriageway of the M62 near Rochdale, Greater Manchester.
Cops said the Audi had been seen driving at high speed shortly before.
The family, from Wakefield, West Yorks, were heading to Manchester Airport to catch a flight to Florida for their first US holiday.
Garys brother David, 54, said: We just cant believe it and to be honest its still sinking in.
They had been planning their holiday for a long time.
They were going to go to Disney, Orlando, then to New York.
It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime.
We cant believe that such a terrible thing like this could happen. They were so well-loved.
A neighbour said: Its such as waste. They were a lovely family.
James was a nice young lad who was into golf. He had his whole life in front of him.
