Michelle Merchant, mother of triplets, Rushelle Renessa, Rehanna Rachel and Robert Cornelius Fisher. The triplets, two girls and a boy were born on July 15 at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital.

Raising children is never an easy task for mothers. But just imagine that you are already a mother of four, and now you have birthed triplets.

This is the challenge that now faces Michelle Merchant, 30, and her partner, Robert Fisher, 33.

Merchant gave birth to two girls and a boy, last Tuesday morning via caesarian section at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston.

The two girls came first, Rushelle Renessa was delivered at 1:31a.m., Rehanna Rachel at 1:32 a.m. and Robert Cornelius at 1:34 a.m.

Dr Palmer and Dr Davis delivered the triplets.

Robert weighed the most at 2.5 kilogrammes (kg), followed by Rushelle at 1.7 kg and Rehanna at 1.62 kg.

The couple were actually expecting twins, it was in the eight month of pregnancy that they found out that there were three children in the w****.

Merchant, who is unemployed told The Gleaner that though she was not expecting triplets, she feels blessed and happy.

Robert, the proud father, shared the same sentiment, "is God's way of blessing us and I very happy with my king (Robert) and princesses (Rushelle and Rehanna)

Robert works as a security guard at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

Merchant's four other children -three boys and a girl - are age 10, eight, six and four.

presented gifts

Baskets filled with Cheekies products, a baby brand under the Wynlee group, was yesterday presented to the couple by Winsome Halliman, chief executive officer of Wynlee Distributors. The presentation was made at the hospital in the maternity ward.

The company will be providing a year supply of diapers for the triplets.

Halliman, who made the presentation, told The Gleaner that her company has sponsored more than a 100 children, mostly triplets and twins.

"We always try to help parents who are in financial difficulties", she said.

The sponsorship, she said, is a part of the company's outreach programme and a way of giving back to the many parents who have supported their brand and products.

Answers, Chowtia Haberdashery, Universal Cash and Carry and Li'sage are among the other companies that contributed gifts in cash and kind to the couple.
