Since early this morning the streets have been buzzing with one big question on the minds of many Dancehall followers. Who took Sumfest Dancehall Night, who Shot and who Flopped?
Firstly let's look at the main contenders we have the Dancehall Doctor Beenie Man, the Warlord Bounty Killer, Dancehalls' fastest rising Bad Boy Mavado, the Portmore Emperor Vybz Kartel with Assassin, Anthony B, Bugle and Serani completing the list.
Fear not 876radio.com was in the house and here's how it all unfolded. Who took Dancehall Night?, Well it was a close race between the the Dancehall doctor Beenie and the Gully god Mavado who both got thirty minutes (30 mins) sets and delivered arguably the two best performances of the night.
From the get go Mavado accompanied by a choir had the gun-totting fingers of the gangstas and the girls in the air as he reeled off hit after hit from this growing catalogue accompanied by his signature evil laugh and his favourite slang "Different Ting", it was indeed a performance of mammoth proportion. However when the Doctor Beenie Man took the stage it was a different story as the ladies were in a frenzy and could not get enough of the 'Girls dem Sugar' as they wined and gyrated to the infectious beats, persons were actually witness begging for more, when he asked "Can I go home now".
The biggest surprise of the night though came from the Five Star General aka Grung Gad, Bounty Killer who delivered a fiery set that could almost rival that of his protege, Mavado, but almost tarnished it all when he provoked a few boos with some unwelcomed commentary. According to one patrons "Bwoy Killa performance remind me of Sting 93.. but him need fi stop the tracing now". Kartel the musical connoisseur and girls anthem king started out well but fizzled in the end. Assassin and Serani also delivered a good set asking the patrons "a coulda wha do dem guy deh" and explained why he's gonna be "stinkin rich", while Ninjaman with his usual comical self was bearly up to par as patrons expected more from the one time Dancehall ruler.
Honourary mention must be given to the upcoming Dancehall diva D'Angel who stood her ground a delievered on her promise to entertain and surprisingly she was not booed, guess this goes to show she is really growing as an artiste.
