Relationships between teachers and students are nothing new, but not all couples can hide their relationships until they are ready to come clean about them.
There was a letter published in the Dear Pastor column on Thursday, where a 28-year-old teacher admitted to having sex with her 18-year-old student. Now she is pregnant and while her teenage lover said he is willing to take responsibility, she was worried about how she was going to tell the people around her that he is the father.
This is one situation the couple did not foresee and it raises the question about what kind of message she is sending her students by having unprotected sex and then being worried about the consequences.
And so it is with many citizens in our society. With many sexually transmitted diseases out there and the possibility of an unplanned pregnancy, some people are still not getting the message that they need to use protection.
We do not want to judge this couple as they both choose to engage in the sexual act as consenting individuals and were not acting outside the law. However we hope other people will learn from their experience and use contraception until they are ready to accept the consequences of their actions.
No matter how much you love each other, unless you are prepared and are ready for a family, contraception is an effective delay to having to deal with this responsibility.
