Summer has barely begun yet there is a set of artistes that seem to have already taken the spotlight, whether their songs are constantly being played at parties or even in the stereo system of a motor vehicle.
For the likes of Serani, Mavado and Vybz Kartel, it seems there's no stopping them.
Producer and singer, Serani has been on a constant rise since entering the industry, first showing his talent as a singer in his collaboration with Mavado for the single Dying.
He then went on to make a mega hit single with Bugle in DOH, and since then, has made an array of tunes, including Stinkin Rich, She Loves Me and Not A Badman, each of which has found success, receiving regular airplay.
Two album deal
Serani says he is currently working on his two album deal in Japan, as Japan is one of the few places where people still buy cd's and is a major market for dancehall.
The first of two, an 11 track album, is entitled Serani - The Future and was released exclusively in Japan in May. It features all of the hits that have rapidly driven Serani up the dancehall ranks, such as DOH featuring Bugle, Stinkin' Rich and She Loves Me.
When contacted, Serani said, "I've been working on singles and videos, especially for the ladies and songs of positivity as associated with DASECA."
Some of the singles that Serani said fans can look out for this summer from him include, No Game, on the Unfinished Business Rhythm, Too Much and Crying For Peace, on the Daseca Label.
Vybz Kartel has also been carrying a certain flare with him for a while now, as he has always found favour with his fans.
He has gone with his word, however, to tone down the violence within his lyrics, as he recently added some non-violent songs to his repertoire like Trailer Load A Money and Money Fi Spend.
Last but surely not least is the Gully Gad, who has had so many achievements and is consistently on the rise.
Olympic support
Recently he was commissioned by Nike to appear in an EPK (Electronic Promotional Kit) and the original track Faster Than A Bullet for Asafa Powell to support the Jamaican effort at the 2008 Olympics. The company also made four sneakers to help promote the campaign, with Mavado, Asafa, Shane Brown and Julian (his manager) each getting one.
His single On The Rock caught the attention of rap mega star Jay-Z who has done an unsolicited remix to it, and also requested for the artiste to perform the single at Madison Square Gardens in New York with him.
Mavado, will also make his film debut this summer when he will appear in What Goes Around, directed by Steve 'Tehut-Nine' McAlpin. The singjay will be playing the role of a sinister character known only as 'Gully God'. Mavado will join other dancehall artistes such as Harry Toddler, Ninja Man, Beenie Man and others who will appear in the movie.
With so much already achieved, the expectations his fans have of him for this summer will be even greater.
Mavado is definitely one of the artistes who much focus and attention will be on for the summer. He recently did a track with Bugle entitled Set Me Free, and Overcome, positive songs of course, another move seen in the artistes' efforts to stay away from the negativity in an attempt to help decrease the level of crime and violence in Jamaica
