3 Comments written below Last Sunday's staging of the 2008 Best of the Best Concert at Bicentennial Park (1075 Biscayne Blvd.) in Downtown Miami, brought out thousands of West Indian fans clamouring to see their favourite artiste(s) and 876radio.com was right there to watch it all unfold.
The high anticipation of some patrons were dampened when they learnt that a few of the headline acts were missing in action amongst those were the Warlord Bounty Killer who was not granted a renewal on his U.S. work permit in time for the show and his protégé the Gully Gad himself Mavado who has seen his fair share of run-ins with the law in recent times.
Needless to say the show must go on and so it did as the capacity crowd waited with much anticipation for their favourite act to appear. The show soon got on the way with some of the younger acts including upcoming deejay Shifta amongst other. The night saw several high and low points, like the mediocre performance from reggae veteran Junior Reid who sang a lot of songs unknown to the crowd. Super Cat and New Kidz also got no love, many said they should have been placed in the early segment of the show.
On the flipside there were some good performances from Reggae songstress Etana who arguably had one of the best performance of the night only comparable to that of Beenie Man's. Sizzla, Serani, Bugle, Buju, Tarrus Riley and the International trio of Akon, T-Pain and DJ Khalid all did a lot of ignite the crowd, but the night belong to none other than the Doctor Beenie Man.
Beenie who never ceases to amaze, dressed in a dapperly white ensemble did a good set and even caught the audience flat-footed when he shouted, "Di Alliance nuh deh yah, but big dem yup same way" before launching into a cover version of Mavado's mega hit 'On The Rock' to the amazement of all. However some patrons were unhappy that he did not performed some of his current hits like 'Back It Up' and 'Pickney Nah Hold Yuh Down'.
Though absent, Mavado's was still represented well by fellow Alliance member Bling Dawg who brought a video recording of the Gangsta saying hopefully he'll be in attendance next year before singing even if me left the gully dont worry the crowd erupted with gun touting fingers and sing alongs.
Even with all the excessively long band changes and scary moments between Junior Reid and Buju Banton, patrons still considered the show a great success. This has been another first brought to you by the good folks at 876radio.com
