A Foothills woman is accused of having sex with a teen boy. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office says 29-year-old Melissa King was the boy's friend and neighbor. His mother is apparently responsible for reporting the crime.
"The mother of our 16-year-old victim in this case came forward and said she believed Ms. King had been having sexual relations with her 16-year-old son," says Capt. Eben Bratcher. The report came in on Friday and investigators made their arrest on Tuesday.
"Of course we started an investigation, interviews were conducted, and based on our investigation, we made an arrest today."
King was booked into the Yuma County Jail on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor.
The sheriff's office says cases involving female sex predators are fairly rare.
"But as you see, in the media today it is becoming more and more common, and part of that may be because most of the time these types of crimes went unreported."
Investigators say Melissa King may not fit the standard MO, but she'll be investigated just like any other sex crime suspect.
"To us, it's absolutely irrelevant that the suspect in this case is a female and the victim is a male. It makes no difference."
Investigators say King was involved with the boy on at least two occassions. This is King's first and only run-in with Yuma County law enforcement.
