Justice Sarah James-Thompson sentenced a sex offender to a total of 82 years in prison for molesting a teenager two years ago.

The sentence was handed down in the St Catherine Circuit Court last Friday.

The 45-year-old St Ann accused pleaded guilty to all charges during the preliminary inquiry.

He was given sentences of 45 years for rape, 15 years for abduction, 12 years for robbery with aggravation, and 10 years for grievous sexual assault.

Justice James-Thompson ruled that the accused is not eligible for parole until he has served 35 years of his sentence.

The court heard that in May 2013, the complainant, who was then 13 years old, was on her way to school in St Catherine when the accused held her and dragged her into bushes.

He placed a machete at her throat, while he raped her. He also robbed her of the $550 lunch money she had.

After the ordeal, the complainant made a report to the Linstead police in St Catherine.

An investigation was launched and he was subsequently picked up by the police.

He was positively identified by the complainant during an identification parade.
