A 57-year-old deacon from Spanish Town, St Catherine, has found himself in custody on a charge of sexual impropriety, involving a 12-year-old girl.

The deacon was picked up last week after it was alleged that he was involved with the minor.

Reports received by THE STAR are that about 10 p.m. the man and family members were at home when he was not seen in an area of the house where he would customarily be.

It is said that out of curiosity, the relative went to another part of the house, where it is alleged that the accused man was found in the bathroom of the complainant.

Further allegations are that when inquiries were made as to why he was there, it was revealed that the child was being sexually exploited for several years.

A report was made to the Spanish Town Police Station. Investigations resulted in the man being held on charges of suspicion of carnal abuse and indecent assault. His name has been withheld by the police pending further investigation.
