A multi-million dollar housing development was announced yesterday (December 12) for the Grange Penn community in Montego Bay, St. James.
The development will be undertaken by the Housing Agency of Jamaica and will see the construction of over 900 studio, one , two and three bedroom units.
The development will take place on over 200 acres of land located in Lilliput, Rose Hall St. James.
In making the announcement, Member of Parliament for East Central St. James, Ed Bartlett says the land on which the development will take place was purchasedrecently by government.
It was bought from the Financial Sector Adjustment Company (FINSAC) at a cost of $150 m.
He says the section of the property, which is occupied, will be regularized with over 900 housing units to be constructed on the Greenfield section.
Mr. Bartlett points out the development is aimed at providing affordable housing for low to middle income workers, especially those in the tourism industry.
Work on the housing development is set to start early next year.
