National Environment and Planning Agency, along with a multi-agency team are currently responding to an oil spill in Kingston Harbour. The spill is located between the Petrojam Oil Refinery and Hunts Bay Power Station, operated by the Jamaica Public Service.
The agency said in a statement that it received a report at approximately 9:00 am this morning from the Marine Police who were on patrol in the harbour. The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard visited the scene earlier today and conducted the initial investigations. NEPA and Marine Police are now at the site conducting further assessments.
NEPA has contacted the ODPEM, Maritime Authority, Petrojam and the Port Authority to get additional assistance to investigate the spill.
