Over the years, several disc jockeys have been on the receiving end of physical assaults relating to accusations of playing too much or not enough of an artiste's songs at events.
Disc jockeys are now deciding to take what they say is a stand against artistes who continually disrespect the ethics and morals of dancehall music.
The decision comes days after a selector was attacked after playing 'banned' songs in a popular St Andrew nightclub. In addition, another member of the entertainment fraternity was also allegedly attacked after airing his disgust over the Internet at the selector's beating.
Among the selectors who have joined to take a stand are, Tony Matterhorn, Ricky Trooper, Foota Hype and Razz and Biggy.
Trooper spoke with THE STAR outlining some of the reasons leading to their decision.
"Most a di man dem weh inna di music from long time an a fight the struggle siddung wah day an a seh a bear tings a gwaan inna di industry," said Trooper.
He continued, "We as selectors help fuel di fire when wi align wi self wid a certain artiste. Mi used to do it enuh, mi fight Beenie Man struggle an give it to Bounty, mi fight Kartel struggle an give it to Mavado. Wi come to a stance yah now, wi dun wid it. Now as selectors wi a pull together. Any man weh nuh plan fi join our cause deh pon dem own. Mi talk to Foota already and Matterhorn and Razz and Biggy dem. If wi nuh united now wi caan united again."
disrupt the unity
Trooper also warned artistes not to try and disrupt the unity as there would be dire consequences.
"Any artiste weh feel seh dem above the unity wah we a try bring across, wi nah go play dem music. Wi a tek back di ting and do it like how it was suppose to be done. Wi ago give everybody fair play," he said.
Tony Matterhorn also shared similar comments saying, "I've been saying it for a long time now, too much bad *la*hd inna di ting. Yuh always have one man wah feel seh him badda dan a next man. The ego keep pushing wi apart and is a hard task still but it can happen because it's the common goal fi everybody because a di end a di day a di same work di whole a wi a do, entertainment."
