'Raindance' at Karma

These two females had Chris Gayle engaged in something other than cricket when he attended the Karma Party, held at Hope Gardens, Old Hope Road, on Sunday night.

Heavy showers all day threatened the staging of Karma but at the end of the day, Virtue events pulled out all the stops to ensure a great party vibe on the lawns of Hope Gardens.

Though scheduled to run from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m., Karma Mi Amor only started to see an increase in the number of patrons after 8 p.m., when patrons thought the worst of the rain was over.

The dance floor didn't have many persons on it, as patrons were scattered across the venue, males and females standing their ground.

With drinks in hand, patrons did their best to dance to the musical styling of Imperial, DJ Nicco and ZJ Liquid. The VIP stage which was situated towards the back, overlooking the rest of the venue, wasn't really packed, but the patrons had an intense party vibe.

And as the night got later and the minutes rolled on, patrons became more relaxed, maybe because of the free-flowing liquor, and eventually there was action on the dance floor. The hip-hop segment got them all warmed up as they danced to songs like Walk it Out and Stanky Leg in preparation of the hugely anticipated dancehall segment.

After 9 p.m., the rain was back and patrons scampered for the few tents located around the venue. The lights were taken down and so the venue was in partial darkness. Was that the end of Karma? The answer, a resounding "no" as some patrons continued dancing the night away while Matterhorn tried to encourage other females to come out from under the tent and dance in the rain because "ah party we cum fi party."

The old school segment got the best of most patrons, as they ventured from beneath the shades of the tents and began grinding on the dance floor, totally ignoring the pitter patter of the rain on their bodies.

When THE STAR left the venue minutes after 10, a slew of dancehall hits were being played and patrons were immensely engrossed in the vibe.
