Prime Minister Bruce Golding has summoned the Minister of National Security, the Commissioner of Police and the head of the Jamaica Defence Force to a special meeting Wednesday morning.

Other top ranking members of the police force and the military will also be in attendance.

Mr. Golding has called the Jamaica House meeting to discuss the implications of the Government's failed bid to get an extension of the State of Emergency which ends on Thursday.

The Government had intended to extend the emergency period for another month but was stopped in its tracks after the Parliamentary Opposition abstained from voting on a resolution.

Effects of the end of the State of Emergency

According to Daryl Vaz, Information Minister, Wednesday morning's meeting will look at the effects this will have on the country's anti-crime plan.

To discuss the implications on the current crime fighting measures and how it will be affected and what contingency plans have to be made to make sure that the assault on crime is sustained pass Thursday despite this recent development, he said.

Mr. Vaz added that following the meeting, the Government will inform the country of the way forward.

Absentee vote shows Oppositions political mind Vaz

The Information Minister also took a jab at the Opposition for not supporting an extension of the State of Emergency.

It is unfortunate that after not supporting the crime bills and after arguing against the extension of the State of Emergency, the Opposition did not see it fit to vote directly against it but abstain and it shows the narrow political mind of the Opposition to the detriment of people of Jamaica, he said.
