Police said they have still not identified a man who they killed during an operation on the Coopers Hill Road in St James on Friday.
The man, believed to be about 27 years old, was shot dead and two of his cronies are on the run.
Detectives from the Montego Bay CIB had reported that about 8:30 p.m., the operation was carried out in the Coopers Hill Road area, when the police approached three men who were walking along the roadway.
Upon their advance, the men pulled guns and opened fire at them. The police responded by returning fire, hitting one of the men, while the other two managed to escape.
The injured man was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he died. None of the lawmen was injured in the operation.
Since then, the Montego Bay CIB have processed the scene and the hands of the officers involved in the shooting were swabbed.
