'Good Love' drops in the US

Sophia Brown's single Gimme That Good Love, was officially released by Universal Records on Monday.

It is the first record by the singer to be released by Universal Records. The release was confirmed by Devon Gaithner of the Los Angeles-based Involved Records, the company that is working in tandem with Brown as it relates to her dealings with Universal Records.

Brown, who had delivered the single to Universal months ago, is thrilled that the song has finally been released. At least two release dates had come and gone without the song hitting the streets.

"I am truly happy that the single has dropped," the singer revealed to THE STAR.

It has been about two weeks since Brown returned home from a promotional tour of the United States. She spent two weeks doing radio and television shows promoting herself and her music in anticipation of the song's release and an album set to be dropped in the US market sometime later this year.

During the tour, Brown said she was asked many things that had little to do with her music. Some of those questions included queries regarding her feelings about coming from the same country as the world's fastest man, the recent revocation of the visas of several Jamaican dancehall acts, and the pending extradition of Christopher Coke.

"There were certain things that I answered and there were certain things that I left alone," she said. Issues like the Coke situation and the visa cancellations were not her business, she stressed.

She tells THE STAR that she managed to impress her hosts with her professionalism, that she was on time for her interviews, and for those that she was unable to make, timely notifications and the offer of other possible dates.

Some interviews she did were streamed via webcam to several European countries and Canada and the feedback from them was quite pleasing.

work ahead

Meantime, Gaithner is telling THE STAR that, now that the song is out, a lot of work lies ahead to ensure that the song gets to as many radio stations and download sites as possible. He says it will be a few months before they know how well the song is doing but for the time being it seems to be doing well. Gaithner said so far the song has been played on a couple of Pump It or Dump It shows and has got 90 per cent and 80-plus per cent 'pump it' votes.

They will now be focusing on getting dates for Brown in several California nightclubs and getting the song out to even more radio stations.

Brown, meantime, has been keeping busy. She performed at Taurus Bash in Junction, St Elizabeth, on Saturday night and the crowd response was very heartening. "It was amazing to perform before my people," said the singer, who doesn't get the chance that often to perform at home. "They made me understand what kind of impact I have on a Jamaican audience."

Gimme That Good Love might have just been released in the US but the video has been doing well here in Jamaica. The video that was shot late last year is currently number five on the VTX video charts on Hype TV. It had spent the three previous weeks at number one.
