Accused tenant charged for wounding landlord

A tenant accused of using a knife to stab her landlord in the back was taken before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Trudy-Ann Reid.

The allegations are that on the day in question, Reid and the landlord had a disagreement. It is alleged that during the argument, the accused retrieved a knife and used it to stab the complainant in the back. It is also alleged that she threatened to burn down the house with the complainant inside.

When the matter was mentioned on Tuesday, it was suggested that both parties receive counselling from the Dispute Resolution Foundation. The complainant agreed to that proposal, but informed the court that he was afraid of the accused and her threats.

Resident Magistrate Georgianna Fraser, however, told him that based on the amount of trouble the accused was already in, she would be very 'stupid' to do anything further or to carry out her threats. The accused nodded in agreement.

Both were instructed to make appointments with the foundation for counselling and to return to court at the end of the month.
