After more than 30 years in the music industry, Nadine Sutherland has maintained her relevance, especially with the active promotion for her newest single Cougar.
Speaking to THE WEEKEND STAR on the set of the video shoot for Cougar, Sutherland said she will be going to the United States today for a month-long tour to promote herself and the single.
"I am getting back out there on the tour circuit and also promoting my new song. It's just more energy being put into it. I have so many years left and so many things that I want to do musically," said the singer, who recently had stints in Antigua and Dominica.
Sutherland said the level of promotion being put behind the song is also linked to the popularity it has got.
"There's really an incredible buzz on the song. Raga (Kingsley 'Ragashanti' Stewart) has had a big impact on it and it really helped the song. The word of mouth on Cougar had been so helpful," she told THE WEEKEND STAR.
"I am totally thrilled at the response it has been getting and I'm really hoping that Jamaica will love the video."
Having got her start in the music business 30 years ago as the first winner of the Tastee Talent Contest and being signed to Bob Marley's Tuff Gong label through which she released her first single Starvation On The Land a few months after, Sutherland has maintained her relevance in the music industry.
"I have to credit Rising Stars because it has opened me up to a whole new generation of people. I have made timeless music and I can say that with a lot of authority. I have at least six songs in my life that are classics," she said, while noting that her music spans many generations.
With Cougar already getting popular, Sutherland said she will be releasing two new songs in the near future.
"Once a song start do well you have to start thinking about song number two," she said.
