SENIOR FEMALE BANKER JAILED - Facing sexual charges involving a minor

Facing sexual charges involving a minor

Livern Barrett, Star Writer

A prominent female banker from one of the island's top financial institutions is now in police custody facing disturbing sexual charges involving a minor, THE STAR understands.

Police sources disclosed that the banker was picked up at her St Andrew home on Sunday by the Duhaney Park police and will be questioned today.

One investigator told THE STAR that she will be interviewed in the presence of her lawyer before she is formally arrested and charged for sexual offences involving a minor, cruelty to a minor and failure to report a crime against a minor.

confirmed report

When contacted, head of the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), Deputy Superintendent Herfa Beckford, confirmed the report, but refused to give details.

"I will not divulge any information," she insisted.

However, DSP Beckford pointed parents and guardians to the Child Care and Protection Act, particularly Section six , which deals with failure to report a crime against a child "or even suspicion" that a child is being abused.

She said CISOCA will ensure that "people face the consequences when they fail to make a report."

Beckford said anyone found guilty of an offence under this Act can be fined up to $500,000 or spend six months in jail or both.
